Click and Mortar
Click and mortar (also known as “clicks and bricks” or the “omnichannel” business model) is a specific kind of business model where a company runs both online and offline operations. More often than not, this means that the business has both an online store and a physical shop.
More and more entrepreneurs and larger enterprises are becoming click and mortar companies because they can offer consumers all the benefits of quick and easy online shopping as well as the perks of the traditional in-person shopping experience. As such, click and mortar brands tend to offer something that suits a broader array of demographics.
The below companies are great examples of major retailers who are now click and mortar businesses:
- Walmart
- Best Buy
- Nordstrom
One of the main benefits of this business model is that click and mortar brands have at least one physical drop-off location. This allows customers to order their products online and pick them up in-store. Not only does this eliminate some of the shipping expenses, but it also encourages foot traffic into the physical store. Who knows, maybe while the customer is already there picking up their order, they’ll make an additional purchase in-store!
In addition, it’s increasingly common for physical stores to act as showrooms for customers wanting to see a product in the flesh, before committing to an online purchase.
